The Salem Shotwell covered bridge is the last surviving covered bridge in Lee County. It was constructed about 1900 by Otto Puls over Wacoochee Creek. The bridge stood until 2005 when it was damaged by a storm and fell into the creek. It was then rescued by John Ross and other volunteers. The bridge was reassembled and relocated to the Opelika Municipal Park where now spans Rocky Brook Creek.
